ESPADRILLES

Each pair is carefully handwoven, hand-sewn and hand-stitched by a family-run artisanal business in Jiangnan Village, Zhejiang, China. With over 20 years of experience, the second generation of the He (何) family now oversees the making of these shoes. Ties between the He family and the artisans are almost kin-like: Whether a fellow villager lacking formal education or skills, or a stay-home elderly trying to make ends meet, they are treated as family. The shared warmth and hospitality naturally transpires into love and attention poured into every stitch and weave.

On your pair of espadrilles, you will find ‘Hab 3:19’ inscribed on the outsole. This refers to a scripture in Habakkuk: ‘The Sovereign Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, He enables me to tread on the heights.’. Our hope is that you may find strength and encouragement in the promise that there is always more to life, and that itself is worth looking forward to.

Made from natural materials, jute, cotton, and linen, these espadrilles are breathable, making them an essential summer staple. With a slightly more elevated sole than most women's casual footwear, the espadrilles keep your feet cushioned - adding a spring to your step! Our footwear are also made in small batches to ensure quality each time.

HUARACHE SANDALS

Originating from Mexico, our Huarache leather sandals are intricately and carefully handwoven by our small team of local artisans made up of mostly stay-at-home mothers. Wearing multiple hats at home, they preserve this piece of shoe-making tradition that has spanned across multiple generations in Sahuayo, Michoacan.

Made using full-grain leather, which is the highest quality and most valued part of the hide, it gives the longevity a pair of everyday shoes will need. The Huaraches only get more comfortable over time as the leather moulds to the shape of your feet, providing a better fit after every wear.

Not forgetting the distinct woody, earthy leather smells! This comes from the vegetable tanning process, a time-consuming affair that lasts for several months requiring highly skilled craftsmanship. As a result, the leather develops a distinct appearance and ages beautifully over time, forming a patina that adds character to the leather that is uniquely yours.
